Two of the most underrated adventure games ever, both Discworld games are based on Terry Pratchett’s pun-filled fantasy Discworld series, in which the whole world is carried through space by a turtle, and idioms and puns do have a life of their own.
As bumbling wizard Rincewind, prevent the Dragon from destroying the world in Discworld 1 and find a way to convince the disillusioned Death to resume his day job in the sequel.
Both games have great humor although dialogues drag on at times , and some of the most devious but logical puzzles ever designed. Famed Monty Python veteran Eric Idle’s performance as the voice of Rincewind is flawless, althought some dialogues are very long-winded to the point of frustrating.
Clever puzzles and hilarious animations, however, more than make up for it. Highly recommended for Pratchett fans and fans of zany adventure games in general– just be prepared to sit through very long and sometimes tedious dialogues. Two thumbs up! I’m on Linux and I could get everything to work but sound. No clue, from dosbox.

Luggage 2 points. If any of you are having problems with the save game thing I figured it out. Replace the “SAVE” folder in your game files with “discwld.

Director’s cut – the second release, with many of the bugs patched. Version 3 aka. The Director’s other cut – the third final release which patched the last remaining bugs, and considered the perfect version.
Where could you find the 3rd version? I only see the floppy, first version, and second version. Tom 3 points. The trick with installing this game is that it can only be installed on what the game thinks is the C drive.
I downloaded the ISO version and mounted it on drive L. Then I copied the Discworld folder to my Games folder on the D drive. To set up sound, as Elph-kun mentioned, you should copy the Drivers folder to the new discwld. You can do this in windows. After that is done, run the Setsound. Got the floppy version.
Could not get any sound to work on DosBox. Switched to ScummVM and it solved the problem. KC 0 point. I have now tried both versions and still no sound. I guess it can be played with no sound, but sound would be a nice touch. However, like Sirawsmface64 has stated, I have no sound. This is a true gem! Dear GOD I spend so much time on this one back in ! However : Some puzzles are VERY difficult, so using a walkthrough when stuck is not wrong in any sense. And trust me, despite being am old “spelunker” I was tearing my on hair out sometimes back then!

Discworld is an amazing experience as are the novels but there is a reason why the file size is so small – sound files for a game that has complete voice acting officially by the amazing Eric Idle. The good news is that the entire game IS subtitled by default.

Discworld police until he was fired for accepting a bribe. The beautiful and mysterious Carlotta just hired you to find Mundy, her ex-lover. As you start looking into Mundy’s disappearance more missing persons cases present themselves to you. Missing persons start turning up dead with yours truly as the prime suspect. Throw in a missing artifact, some shady underworld characters, and the ex-girlfriend who broke you heart, and you have all the elements of classic Raymond Chandler noir novels.
In a refreshing break from the recent trend of 3D adventures, Discworld Noir is a traditional third-person adventure with a few novel twists.
In addition to the standard point-and-click interface, you have a notebook that contains a list of suspects and clues. You can use the clues and suspects’ names just like any other inventory item: by clicking on its name, then clicking on something else in the environment that you think relates to it. If the two things are related, you will gain new insights that often lead to new clue s appearing in the notebook. This way of simulating the deductive process is highly effective, and fool-proof– since there are dozens of names and locations, it is nearly impossible to deduce new leads by simple trial-and-error.
There are also many other pleasant surprises that keep gameplay fresh and fun, such as a special ability that you also use via the inventory screen, and many unexpected plot twists. Since you are a P. Unfortunately, this is one of the game’s few weaknesses. While most of the conversation is witty, they are also excessively long– not unlike the previous two Discworld games.
The same criticism also applies to most of the cut-scenes, which end up being mere showcases of the game’s 3D effects rather than integral to the plot. The voice acting is also overdone, although it is somewhat appropriate for the game’s tongue-in-cheek noir style.
Despite all my nitpickings about the weak use of multimedia, though, Discworld Noir is an excellent adventure that’s well worth the money. Its interesting plot and characters, great interface, and challenging puzzles really brings Lewton’s world to life, and make the game’s weaknesses seem trivial.
Similar to Adventuresoft’s Feeble Files , all 3 CDs of the game are packed with a lot of solid gameplay and great plot development. Although this underdog was never released in the US, it is still widely available from stores in Europe-based on-line stores at bargain prices.

The bottom one is getting blocked by my virus software. Is there something wrong with it or does it need the Trojan detected? Check “Reduced color mode” and choose bit color. Also make sure “Run this program as an administrator” is checked. Then you can run it out of the box fullscreen on Windows 10, or at least it’s working fine for me without any changes.
Running in compatibility mode also doesn’t seem necessary. You need to change the desktop to 16 bit color. Fatso 1 point. Got the game to run and now the game looks like my graphics card took acid. I’m not sure how to fix it and would like any assistance you are willing to give.

I used the loma fix, so the game actually runs now, but my colours are completely messed up, and the screen is all scrunched to one side. HulkPants 1 point. Any advice on just installing this? I cannot get past “insert Disc 2”. I’m using Win10 via parallels on a Mac I’m guessing that’s not ideal and have tried Win Xp compatibility but same issue.
I am desperate to get this working as it was always one of my favourite games to play on playstation, but not sure I can handle the slow loading and dodgy graphics now. ARK7 1 point. This, Monkey Island and Full throttle made my childhood I remember seeing a friend playing this when we were both kids and it always looked like a blast. They had the other games in the series too and looking back, I’m a little jealous lol. Hopefully this does come to GOG, would love to give it a proper play! This was an amazing game that simply needs to be on GOG.
I would also be happy if discworld 1, 2 and noir could be bought from you. With german soundtrack would be nice! Please find and release these Best Games. I love the gallows humor and also the german voice of Rincewind!!
Terry s daughter has spoke to gog but unfortunately they don’t own the rights to the games just the characters so the chances of a re-release are unlikely going to happen which is disappointing. Discworld 1 and 2 on GOG would be only natural and legit. They were among the first games I looked for when I registered years ago.
It is like the books, which are about various characters in Discworld sometimes characters from one book meet with characters from another, but in this case it is very little overlap. Yes, there’s a way to obtain them from abandonware sites I’m really thankful for them , but being able to purchase the legal copy would be great.
I have started playing this on my PS1 recently retrieved from my loft, it would be amazing to get an updated GOG version. One of the true gems that sadly aren’t here yet : – I miss it very much and will buy the moment it’s possible! I am eagerly waiting for this one. Hopefully, it will happen one day. Yes please. I’d love to buy them, pirated versions do not feel right. Absolute wanna see Discworld 1 – 3 would buy it instantly dont matter the price even in preium hyper deluxe edition also would gift it to all of my friends.

In true adventure fashion, Rincewind must collect items, talk to the locals, and solve puzzles, with a little humor on the side. This game is a good title for anyone who loves the Discworld series and adventure gamers who enjoy a little humor.
