I’ve been using Sonos for more than a year; it is a frustrating system with many glitches and limitations–for example, sometimes I can get my Pandora music to play, but othertimes is simply won’t. Guidance always seems to be to reboot router, speakers, etc. Further, there have been periodic system updates, both to Sonos and Apple operating systems, such that things that used to work playing music residing on my iPhone, launching from my Mac desktop are no longer operational. Tech support is meager.
I’ve never been notified about the reasons for any of these changes. Very frustrating system and not nearly worth the price and aggravation. This must be the worst and most expensive app and device combo on the market.
Not only have they taken away the capability to play your iTunes music downloaded to your phone the desktop app inexplicably loses the local file path on my laptop when nothing has changed. The latter is not uncommon either, I see thousands of threads of complaints about Sonos.
The device is not cheap and the software is a joke. This is technically the Sonos S1 Controller app now. The Sonos 2 app sans “Controller” reference for whatever marketing folks do such things is for folks that have upgraded their systems to the S2 platform. My pair of Sonos speakers are now worthless. They aren’t connected to my own music.
They aren’t connected to any other wireless gear like my Apple TV. All they are is an ordinary sounding radio. I’d sell them but who’d want them. The recent software update made them obsolete. The Sonos system is a joke. I cant even feed music from itunes on my macbook pro directly to the speakers?!? I dont want to be forced to yet an other control interface for playing my music.
Who needs that? The clunky Sonos app doesn’t even provide access to all my tunes or playlists, doesn’t reflect the order that I set up for those Why would I want to trade in my time proven Itunes set up for a A clunky, limited system. I am shocked at the incompetence and will return the Play:5 immediately. What a waste of time. What were these software programmers thinking.
Why dont you stick to providing speakers and a technically stable system to sync them across rooms instead of also trying to best a perfectly working itunes. Between Apple and Sonos they are wrecking my life. After a Mac Update refuses to let Sonos access music library – help goes round in circles – try another system? Good but difficult openning. The forced 9. Not surprisingly, the only room I was able to get to work was the newest Sonos device, Play 1’s.
All of our older Sonos hardware has been down for over a week. JD-1 Dec 4 I’ve had a Sonos for 3 years and must say that the hardware is of very good quality, not nearly as good as Apple’s current HomePod, but it is a very good speaker.
As well, there have been many times when using their app on my iPhone, I get a can’t connect to my iTunes library message when it had just finished playing something from it.
I then have to go to my Mac and restart iTunes so the app can again recognize my library, which defeats the whole purpose of “remotely” controlling your speaker! The Sonos Mac app is also a pain and both of their apps make the experience of using them worse with each new iteration..
I’m done with them and will be sticking with the vastly superior sounding AND friendlier U. Hermie Oct 10 Watch out! Updating to 9. To keep doing that normal stuff one now needs a tablet or smart mobile phone. Sonos calls this progress. In short, if you only have a desktop Mac or a laptop it’s byebye, you’re not welcome anymore.
Besides that, the new and “improved” player looks butt-ugly. Dauph-V Jan 22 I purchased Sonos Play:1’s not too long ago however today was the first time I unboxed them and set them up. I was shocked that you must create an on-line account before you’re able to configure them, then your information is uploaded to Sonos and shared across other devices using that same login. You can only really play music and certain radio stations. You can’t even watch a movie on your Mac and connect the audio to the Sonos speakers.
If I would have known I was spending this much money on two speakers with such limitations I would have purchased something else. The Sonos Play:1 speakers sound decent however what’s the point if you can’t really use them as speakers with everything, only a few things in their own limited capacity.
Version 8. What a scam It would be great if you could use Sonos software or another 3rd party software but they seem to restrict this in many ways. I’d prefer to use Audirvana Plus 3. Johnnyr Dec 23 Having bought over 7 different Sonos speakers over the years and enjoying the system, it’s very clear now to me that Sonos seems to have a huge problem with the software development.
I’m experiencing dropouts all the time and thought buying the Booster would take care of it, but that didn’t help much. For every update both on iOS and Mac it’s only been downhill for Sonos. The Mac app is slow as h.. I’m selling my speakers now and wishing Sonos all the luck, cause they are going to need it seeing all the competition they have from others lately.
A tip to Sonos: Go hire the best app developers and give them a worthy salary or prepare for bankruptcy. I don’t know what previous reviews found lacking, but this is a flawless hub for my Sonos system. James Aug 25 Additionally without such upgrades the hardware could become disabled.
Given this information, Sonos is no longer a product I will ever consider purchasing. If this information is not factual I would appreciate receiving confirmable knowledge of it so I can revise my opinion. Edeerly May 17 This Mac version works pretty well, but it looks and feels nothing like most current native Mac apps.
Despite the embarrassing interface, this app plays well with others and does a good job controlling the wonderful Sonos system. Wannes Sep 4
