Verified Purchase. I got this to make up for a printed manual, to improve my skills, and to have a reference book.

So far, I’m fairly disappointed. It seems to be better than what can be had for free, but not by much. Used as a reference, I went looking for “undirected angle”, hoping for a brief explanation of what is does. I get instruction in the form of 20 steps to teach myself using a tutorial file. I appreciate the approach, and it seems to be used heavily in this book, but most of the time, I just need a brief explanation or a refresher on what a command does.

This method falls short. Another example: I want to scale a solid. I look in the index for “scale” which takes me to free forms.. I search google and find out in you can scale using “direct edit”. There are also ways to scale parts by deriving them, but I didn’t learn that in this book.

So, I find the “direct edit” in the index and when I go look, sure enough, you can scale, but the section on this tool fails to mention where the heck I find it. I hope this book redeems itself over the next months, but it’s off to a rocky start. This is a great book and love all the download chapters. Works perfect on my new Ipad. Not perfect but helpful. I bought one copy Jan It was so good I bought a second copy 22 Feb which I cut into segments of a few chapters to read on the bus. I got the idea while reading this book. The step-by-step instructions and illustrations are clear. The tutorials teach the Inventor tools by applying them to partially completed Part and Assembly files available at the Sybex website. Not what I expected at all.

The author has an excellent ability to offer the information in simple, easy-to-follow steps; he really has an understanding of the process of learning from the ground up, and is able to teach everything the reader needs to know in coherent, plain language.

Anybody who wants to master Autodesk Inventor need look no further. This is the only resource you’ll need. Just getting into it but appears great from what I’ve covered so far Very detailed book. Easy to understand and good to keep it around for reference while working on the software.
