I’ve set up a new site collection and it is a meeting site. All the site pages have the quick launch menu except the home page. The home page is made up of 3 web part zones of which I’m only using the middle one. How can I add the quick launch nav to the home screen?

The usual site settings – treeview – quick launch check box toggles it on or off for the site but it still doesn’t appear on the home page. When you say that you would like to add a quick launch to the home screen. Are you saying that you would like to create a quick launch link that will show up on the left side, in the quick launch area?

Or are you referring to the My Company Portal home screen? I am listing all the steps below that you will need to take to create a link in the quick launch. First you will need to verify that publishing is turned on and that the navigation is available on the site collection that you would like the quick launch created. If “Navigation” is not showing up you will need to click on “Site collection features” under ” Site Collection Administration”.

After the publishing feature is activated you will need to browse back to the site settings and verify that you see “Navigation” under “Look and Feel” now. Once you have copied the URL you will need to browse to the site collection where you would like the quick launch created.

When you are in the Navigation, you will see “Navigation Editing and Sorting”, and this will be the area where you can set up the quick launch to the Home Page. After you OK your way out of everything and then navigate back to the site collection that you wanted the quick launch set up, you will see it now on the left side. Did you click on the “Global Navigation” or “Current Navigation” option? The “Global Navigation” is the default and will add the link to the top link bar and not the quick launch.

You will need to click on “Current Navigation” and the add from there and you will have it show up in the quick launch. If you would like to have the link show up under one of the options like Documents or Lists, then you would need to click on that corresponding folder and then add the link.

Thursday, January 5, PM. Thanks, yes that adds headings and links to the quick launch bar and when I am other pages i can confirm these are added. My problem is that the quick launch is not on the home page so adding new items isn’t what I’m after. Apparently adding users from outside the organisation is disabled maybe because a trial account so I can’t send you a direct link.

The home page is a web part page with 3 web zones across the page. The center webzone has a webpart which is a calendar view of a list. Other than the standard top link bar and the usual SP functionality above it, there is nothing else on the page.
